Grayson Rallies Late to Take Two From NCTC

Grayson softball showed some resilience coming from behind twice on Saturday afternoon to take two wins away from conference rival NCTC.  The Vikings got game one by a score of 5-4 followed by a walk off 8-7 win in game two.

After getting down 1-0 in the first inning of game one, Grayson evened things up in the bottom of the third.  Center fielder Shelby Fleming led the inning off with a solo shot to knot the score at one.

NCTC wasted little time regaining the lead with a two run blast of their own in the top of the fourth.  The Vikings responded though with a pair of rbi doubles from Lauren Degelia and Fleming in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at three.

Grayson got on top for good in the bottom of the fifth when third baseman Desiray Sauseda connected for a solo home run to left-center field.

The Vikings added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth off a rbi single from Skylar Shedlock.  That run proved big as NCTC go one back in the top of the seventh before Grayson pitcher Kylie Williams induced a game ending ground ball to shortstop Morgan Lewis to finish her complete game performance and give the Vikings a 5-4 victory.

Kylie Williams went all seven innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out two and walking zero.

Grayson racked up nine hits with Fleming and Sauseda both managing multiple knocks.

Grayson College got things moving in the first inning of game two. Skylar Shedlock's sac fly got the Vikings off to a 1-0 lead in the first.

Grayson put up three more runs in the second inning. Shelby Fleming drew a bases loaded walk and catcher Danielle Humphrey followed with a two rbi single to give the Vikings a 4-0 lead.

That lead faded fast though as the Lions responded with a four spot on the board in the top of the third inning followed by three more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-4 lead.

That score would hold until the bottom of the sixth when Grayson started chipping away.  Baylee McBrannon reached safely on a bunt to lead off the inning.  Two hitters later freshman Lauren Degelia drove a pitch to deep center field for a two run home run bringing the Vikings within one.

Down to their last three outs, Grayson got the seventh started on a Skylar Shedlock single.  Desiray Sauseda followed with a walk and McBrannon reached on an error to load the bases with nobody out.  Alexus White then delivered a game tying sacrifice fly for the Vikings.  Degelia followed with a line drive single to left to load the bases for pinch hitter Cailyn Cunningham.  After started the at bat 2-0, NCTC got the count back to 2-2 before Cunningham delivered with a sharp single up the middle for a Vikings walk off 8-7 win.

Kylie Williams earned the win for Grayson. She went one and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking zero.

Grayson totaled eight hits in the game. Danielle Humphrey and Lauren Degelia both collected two hits in the contest.
